I'm working on a larger proposal about this, but I would recommend splitting "safety" and "access control" into two separate issues, even though there will be overlaps.
Yeah, I would agree with that.
By no means the primary or even secondary reason why I agree, but: I think
"access" should remain an emotionally positive experience, not security
theater.

@nthmost I agree with that.
I'd like to propose RFID as a solution to getting in the space. We are one of 2-3 spaces in the WORLD that do not have RFID solutions for access control. If I'm not mistaken, Dana and Jake already have the code to make this happen, and JC and recently (banned? suspended?) Rayc had already agreed a month ago to help me make it happen.
This would be implemented during rebase, but it stops the ever increasing amount of keys being produced and handed out to the space. Also PS: One has a great software they created for keeping track of keys, activating/deactivating and the like and they've agreed to let us have it.
Obviously more detailed proposal required for this, but I wanted to bring it to everyone's attention.
In regards to infrastructure safety (fire, electrical, tools, machines)
Anything regarding the SAFETY of the space should be the responsibility of the Noisebridge Board of Directors. This includes:
1. Making sure we are (remotely) up to building code.
2. Making sure we have at least one ADA compliant bathroom.
3. Making sure we have monthly maintenance of the smoke detectors, and making sure we have up-to-date fire extinguishers at all times.
4. Making sure access control systems (RFID or door code are functioning)
5. Being the main point of contact to the building manager in regards to any issues they need to address (like the elevator)
6. Making sure we have toilets that flush.
7. Hiring for pest control, building maintenance, and cleaning as necessary.
These are the obvious ones, I'm sure I'll come up with some more. But I think this should be the #1 responsibility of the board.
