So, just to be clear: this (the comments section of an Issue) is where we keep the discussion about the Issue?

And then, presumably we'll arrive at some "conclusion"? And then... what happens?

For this topic in particular it would be helpful to define a real goal for the discussion.

Like, "define THE SEVEN COMMANDMENTS OF NOISEBRIDGE"

Then we can have a big party where we climb up a desolate mountain after wandering for years in a desert, and lightening can strike pony and the Seven Commandments will be etched into the side of pony's case.

I don't know why Seven, I just like it.

Yes, I think that this is where we discuss the issue. I don't think we always have to aim for a conclusion, but I think that some discussions might make us think “Oh, we should totally X!”, at which point we should split off that specific activity. Some issues might be aiming for a conclusion, like “Which plumber should we use?”.

The reason I asked this question is because I'd like each of us to know roughly what the others think. I one sense, that might mean that this issue is done when we've all said some stuff. Alternately, we might have productive discussion with each other to discover more about the other opinions.

Maybe there's a nugget of vision that we all agree on? If there is, we should write that sucker down forthwith and tell everyone about it.

Well, another reason I bring up goals is that it's often helpful to have a focal point for the conversation, even if the goal itself is ridiculous.

This topic in particular... you know, I love writing. But some conversations are more fluidly and productively done in conversation.

Maybe we should HAVE this conversation at the next board meeting, with the goal of arriving at X "conclusions" -- even if those are controversial among ourselves -- to write into this Issue.
