About

If I had a byline that fit all occasions it would be this:

Naomi Most still doesn’t know what she wants to be when she grows up.

I was raised by a clan of scientists, musicians, engineers, and madmen who insisted that I could do anything, and should.

Consequently, I grew up thinking I should be doing everything equally well. Some toys were more attractive than others, of course.

I’ve spent the most time in my life writing code (which I’ve been doing since I was about 8 years old, starting with an Apple IIe), developing recipes for food for special diets (most recently for cyclic ketogenic diets), singing and playing guitar (and more recently, the drums), and reading and talking about science in writing and podcasts.

My name, Naomi Theora Most, contracts down to the handle I now use most of the time, “nthmost“, which an adorable math joke if you know it, and eye-glazing tedium to hear explained if you don’t already know it.

I still don’t know what to tell people when they ask what I do. One friend recently told me, “if I didn’t already know you before looking at your website, I’d think you were a fake person.” Haha! Food for thought, but the digestion thereof didn’t produce any useful insights other than writing this paragraph here.

My resume shows my employment and entrepreneurial history, my Portfolio shows off my favorite web development projects, and there’s a Community Projects and Promotions page for everything else.

If there is a unifying theme to my interests and pursuits, it’s “hooking stuff up to other stuff” and also “making the world less pointlessly frustrating.”  To that end, I enjoy studying neuroscience, philosophy, psychology, marketing, cognitive science, evolutionary biology, and socioeconomics.  If you’d like to see how I’m trying to connect all of these things together, go read my alter-ego Twitter feed, @MemeHacking.

In major universities I’ve studied linguistics, computer science, mathematics (to differential equations and linear algebra), anthropology, French literature, and Japanese culture.

The world has caused me to learn leadership, sales, volunteer coordination, business development, feminist theory, and copyright law.  I own a business that I comfortably roll in and out of active operation depending on my needs, hiring contractors when necessary.

Travels have taken me to Hungary, Honduras, Japan, Canada, and almost every State and Commonwealth in the U.S.A. with the notable inclusion of Puerto Rico (which I love, despite my distaste for squalor).

I’m also a bit of a health nut, an occasional role-playing gamer, a sinusoidal martial artist, and most recently, the proud mama of a beautiful baby boy, born naturally at my home in San Francisco.

Oh, and I have this bizarre affinity for streaming radio and podcasting. I’ve participated technically in the founding of Radio Valencia and in the rebirth of Mutiny Radio (formerly Pirate Cat Radio). I’m also working on a Super Sekret Radio Podcasting… Thing… and not uncoincidentally Mutiny Radio has this fundraiser going on. Check it out.

I can teach you how to bake your own cereal without using grains or starches.

I can sing the Neon Genesis Evangelion theme song in Japanese, the whole thing, no looking up lyrics.

I can also Gangnam Style.
